Faith and Fulfillment: The Life of Abraham

What impact will our faith and faithfulness have on the world this week? What about in 10 years, 100 years, or 1,000 years?

In the book of Genesis we meet Abraham – the “father of Israel.” And we see his influence everywhere in Scripture. In the New Testament he’s spoken of as “the man of faith” (Galatians 3:9) and as “God’s friend” (James 2:23).

But in his own day, his faith faltered. Numerous times.

Early in the Bible’s narration of Abraham’s life, God promises to greatly bless him so that he will be a great blessing to others (Genesis 12:1-3), but this promise is extremely slow in coming. The process of fulfillment moves at a crawling pace, and at a number of points it even goes backward.

God proves his trustworthiness to Abraham again and again, but even at the end of his life Abraham sees only a partial fulfillment of what was promised. In large part, God’s promise to bless the nations through Abraham would only be fulfilled millennia later through his greater son, the man Jesus Christ.

This summer, join us at Liberti Church as we study how God makes instrumental use of this weak man’s faith struggle to bring unimaginable blessing to the world. As we do, we’ll also consider how God offers us his promises and presence so that the world might be blessed through our faith and faithfulness.
