There are very few things in life that are as seemingly ordinary yet filled with such deep meaning as sharing a meal with someone. During Advent, we went through the first few chapters of Luke looking at the songs of the first Advent. Now we are kicking off the New Year by traveling through the Gospel of Luke, seeing how Jesus practiced a grace-empowered radical hospitality, eating and drinking with all kinds of people. We will also be praying through our mission as the community of liberti church east. We will see how meals are not just a symbol of the Kingdom of God, but literally are a "taste" of the Kingdom. This will be a season of reaching out and sharing the radical hospitality of Jesus as we invite people into our homes and lives in the sharing of meals together.
* Much of the inspiration for this series goes to Tim Chester's book A Meal With Jesus: Discovering Grace, Community & Mission around the Table. It would be a great companion to read along with this sermon series if you are able.
We also desire to see everyone "feeding" themselves as we jump into the new year. To go along with this sermon series we've provided the following scripture reading plan. Starting January 8th, the scriptures spoken about in each sermon will be included in the weeks reading to give you a chance to meditate on the life and hospitality of Jesus throughout the week.
If you are interested in supplementing your readings in Luke, you can join the church around the world with these daily lectionary readings that include the Psalms and other Old Testament passages.
